British Values
At our schools we ensure that through our school vision, values, rules, diverse curriculum and teaching we promote tolerance and respect for all cultures, faiths and lifestyles. The governing body also ensures that this ethos is reflected and implemented effectively in school policy and practice and that there are rigorous risk assessments in place to safeguard and promote students’ welfare.
We have a duty to prepare our children for life in modern Britain and to keep them safe. Pupils who attend our school have the right to learn in safety. We do not tolerate bullying of any kind and will challenge derogatory language and behaviour towards others.
Examples of discreet and explicit teaching of British values include:
Religious education which encourages reflection and critical thinking to develop an understanding of how we can celebrate our heritage and home cultures whilst also embracing the commonality of values in different religions. Our circle time supports pupils’ understanding of what it is to live in multicultural British society, to challenge injustice and prejudice. Through our humanities curriculum we explore pupils’ responsibilities as global citizens and the rule of law, including the role of democratic advocacy for change. Our active school council represents fairness and the democratic process through pupils giving their mandate to their elected representative.
