Furness Primary School Councillors - 2024/2025
Meet our School Councillors
INTENT
Furness Primary School Council Voice was formed to ensure that all pupils "voices" within the school are heard.
As a community, every voice matters.
All children regardless of age or ability have opinions and it is our responsibility to ensure those opinions are "heard".
UNCRC - Article 12 - You have the right to have a say about decisions that affect you and have your opionons heard.
Our children should be given opportunities to represent their school in the wider community and experience greater responsibility through the roles they play.
UNCRC - Article 13 - You have the right to get and share information as long as it doesn't damage children and other young people.
The School Council Voice will run in parallel with our creative curriculum, supporting and liaising with individual subject leaders where appropriate as well as extending responsibilities outside of school to support national charities and local events.
UNCRC - Article 15 - You have the right to meet together and to join groups and orgnisations (as long as this does not stop people from enjoying their rights).
IMPLEMENTATION
The School Council Voice has two representatives from every class (Year 1- Year 6).
These representatives have been elected by members of the class, thereby honouring the core British value of DEMOCRACY.
In order to be elected as a School Councillor, as a way of reprenting their class, year group and Key Stage, candidates must clearly state their reasons for doing so and also elaborate as to why they would be a suitable candidate.
School councillors (one male and one female) are chosen as a result of gaining the majority vote.
School Council meetings take place once a month, during lunch time (once the chidren have eaten have eaten). The headteacher, SLT and other staff members are notified of these meetings via email, with the message then passed onto the councillors.
School councillors are to attend all meetings and be issued with a corridor pass to gain access to the building in order to do so. Meetings will take place in class 5DO, unless specified otherwise.
