Approach to Teaching Phonics

Approach to Reading Comprehension

  • Reading V.I.P.E.R.S.  is the approach we use to teach reading across the school. Our aim is to bring the books to life and provide additional experiences to enable children to have full and equal access to high quality texts linked to cross-curricular themes, develop and broaden their vocabulary and provide them with the knowledge and experiences required to infer meaning and deepen their understanding.
  • Reading Comprehension – Reading skills are taught within a discrete reading lesson where vocabulary, inference, prediction, explain, retrieve, summarise and sequencing skills are taught and each skill is given individual focus and attention during these lessons.
